Frequency License - Full Approval

Author: Levente Buzas

In a previous update we covered the necessity of a frequency license for the success of the ORCASat mission, and the significance of receiving an approval in principle from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). An approval in principle is not sufficient for flight, a radio license based on this approval is required.

With ORCASat integration scheduled for May 23rd -25th at the CSA, there is a need for the final frequency license as the launch provider, NanoRacks, does not allow the integration of the spacecraft into the deployer unless a frequency license is available. The ORCASat team submitted the final document which is required by ISED to get the license (CPC-2-6-02 Appendix D information), and successfully received this important document this week. This concludes the CPC-2-6-02 licensing process for the space segment, and removes the above-mentioned obstacle to integration.

We would like to thank ISED for their support with obtaining the final frequency license, and processing our application with a very short turnaround, well before the advertised service standard. Your time and effort on this is much appreciated!
